We transformed a SSSI woodland (Site of Special Scientific Interest - an area that is notoriously difficult to work in and required a strong working relationship between us and the conservation agency) into a meteorite landing site, by clearing vegetation, layering charred groundcover, and sculpting sand to create an alien landscape. Trees were oriented and trimmed to simulate blast damage from the meteor strike.
